Superintendent gets USPIE’s December Millstone Award for ‘non-endorsement’ stickers on America’s founding documents
An official said it was just a mistake, but given the woke policies that infect government schools, the so-called error may just be par for the course.
The Anchorage School District in Alaska placed “non-endorsement” stickers on booklets containing the nation’s founding documents, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
This has earned Anchorage School Superintendent Jharrett Bryantt our Millstone of the Month Award for December).
After this was exposed, a school official said it was just a mistake, but given the woke policies that infect government schools, the so-called error may just be par for the course.
The Millstone of the Month award is given to the person involved in government schools who has committed the most egregious acts against children. These individuals have taken steps to funnel wokeness and other harmful pedagogies into America’s classrooms.
Mr. Bryantt deserves this dishonor for allowing this on his watch. That it happened at all signals an atmosphere of wokeness. How could this just slip through? There really is no plausible excuse.
A parent, Karen Waldron, who posted the image on Facebook on Nov. 3, said she was “honestly stunned,” according to the Western Journal. The sticker says, “The Anchorage School District does not endorse these materials or the viewpoint expressed in them.”
“She noted that these are not controversial documents, but the very foundation of our government,” the Journal said.
District representative MJ Thim said the label is normally used for flyers and posters from outside organizations and that it was placed on the booklets erroneously, according to the Anchorage Daily News.
“This was our mistake,” Thim wrote in an email, adding that the district will review its procedures to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
“Thim emphasized that the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are taught in every school and they ‘reflect the values we want every student to understand,’” the paper said.
“The picture spread quickly across social media,” according to the Western Journal. “Too many parents to count were rightly outraged that such a warning appeared on the most essential texts in American civic life.”
In addition, Bryantt announced in February that Anchorage schools would effectively bar federal immigration officials from setting foot on school grounds.
A special “immigration page” was set up on the district’s website, saying, “Any immigration official seeking to enter ASD property will be required to present a judicially signed warrant. This warrant will then be reviewed by ASD’s legal counsel to ensure it meets the necessary legal standards before any action is taken.”
As the web publication MustReadAlaska said, “Bryantt is essentially declaring Anchorage schools to be sanctuaries for illegal immigrants.”
This is yet another clue that government schools are beyond fixing.
USPIE’s new report, “Are Government Schools Redeemable?” lists numerous reasons why parents need to make other educational plans for their children.
“Government schools have failed most students by every key metric: reading and math, critical thinking, attendance, physical and mental health, and return on taxpayers’ investments,” the report says.
