Big Tech and leftist teachers union join forces to ‘protect students’

Microsoft has teamed up with the radical leftist American Federation of Teachers on a “National AI Safety & Privacy Standard.”  

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), its New York City affiliate United Federation of Teachers and Microsoft jointly presented the standard on Sept. 9. They say they want to establish “legally enforceable protections to ensure the safety of students, families, and educators” following “months of intense negotiations and in the absence of any meaningful federal and state rules,” according to the Daily Signal.

 Government schools across America have been in the grip of teachers’ unions such as the American Federation of Teachers and the larger and equally radical National Education Association for years.

 As a nationwide coalition fighting to return education to its proper local roots, escaping federal and other national influences, USPIE says that schools should move away from devices altogether, not replace one harmful technology with another.

 AI has no place in K–8 classrooms, and young children should never be treated as test subjects for experimental digital platforms,” Few said. “The safest, healthiest learning environment is one grounded in books, teachers and real human interaction — not screens, not algorithms and certainly not AI systems built on standards crafted by politically motivated unions.

 Microsoft says the policy will go into effect on Nov. 1 for every school district that already has contracts with the company. Districts will not have to wait until renewal or to opt in, according to The Daily Signal, which noted, “The AFT has aligned itself with Democrat candidates and leftist causes, advocating for student debt forgiveness, endorsing sex-rejecting procedures for minors, and opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”

 The AI company Anthropic, when launching its Claude for Teachers program, said that it, too, was working with AFT “to align our terms and privacy practices with gold standards they’re developing.”

Teachers’ unions are a key impediment to redeeming government schools and need to stay out of the U.S. Department of Education. They are now taking advantage of the recent hysteria over the growth of artificial intelligence, just as they did during the COVID pandemic, when they kept schools closed far longer than necessary.

Parents who don’t want their kids corrupted by these left-wing unions need to get them out of government schools and into homeschooling or private schools. At the same time, government officials should be pressured to end the woke miseducation and return schools to teaching the basics.
